There are several online\u00a0versions of the\u00a0Carte g\u00e9n\u00e9rale de France<\/em>, the first comprehensive map of France produced by the Cassini family in the 18th century. Some, like those hosted by the\u00a0EHESS<\/a> and the David Rumsey Map Collection<\/a>, georectify and stitch together\u00a0the individual maps together to make a more-or-less seamless whole. On Gallica, the Biblioth\u00e8que nationale de France’s digital library, it’s presented as individual sheets<\/a>;\u00a0the Library of Congress does the same<\/a>\u00a0with its copy\u2014the better to appreciate the originals, I suppose.
