height: 500px;\" \/> <\/div> <\/div> <!-- close group --> <\/div> <!-- close row --> <\/div>\n<p>Two items on books about nonexistent places on maps and other map errors, each of which we&#8217;ve heard of before:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.santafenewmexican.com\/pasatiempo\/you-can-t-get-there-from-here-the-phantom-atlas\/article_d0bfaafe-f963-536d-b924-1aae375f944a.html\">The <em>Santa Fe New Mexican<\/em> has a piece<\/a>\u00a0on\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/o\/ASIN\/1471159450\/maproom-20\"><em>The Phantom Atlas: The Greatest Myths, Lies and Blunders on Maps<\/em><\/a> by Edward Brooke-Hitching, which came out in the U.K. in late 2016 (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.maproomblog.com\/2016\/11\/the-phantom-atlas\/\">previously<\/a>); <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/o\/ASIN\/1471159450\/maproom-20\">that edition<\/a> is available via Amazon on the U.S. and Canada, but <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/o\/ASIN\/1452168407\/maproom-20\">a separate U.S. edition<\/a> is coming in April from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chroniclebooks.com\/the-phantom-atlas.html\">Chronicle<\/a>. [<a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/groups\/100509989851\/permalink\/10157524787319852\/\">WMS<\/a>]<\/li>\n<li>Meanwhile, <a href=\"https:\/\/news.nationalgeographic.com\/2018\/01\/maps-undiscovered-fake-islands-cartography\/\">at\u00a0<em>National Geographic<\/em>\u2019s All Over the Map blog<\/a>, Greg Miller takes a look at\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/a-fwd.com\/uk=thmaro-21&amp;ca=maproomca-20&amp;com=maproom-20&amp;asin-uk=1846973503&amp;asin-ca=1250148448&amp;asin-com=1250148448\"><em>The Un-Discovered Islands<\/em><\/a>, Malachy Tallack&#8217;s book about phantom islands: places once thought real, but later proven nonexistent. Like\u00a0<em>The Phantom Atlas<\/em>, it first saw publication in 2016; its <a href=\"https:\/\/us.macmillan.com\/books\/9781250148452\">U.S. edition<\/a> came out last November (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.maproomblog.com\/2017\/10\/the-un-discovered-islands-comes-to-north-america\/\">previously<\/a>).
