The legislature and governor having failed to submit a new electoral district map by the \u00a0court&#8217;s deadline, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.philly.com\/philly\/news\/politics\/pennsylvania-gerrymandering-supreme-court-map-congressional-districts-2018-elections-20180219.html\">the court has imposed what it calls a remedial plan<\/a>, drawing a new congressional electoral district boundaries for the state of Pennsylvania (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.pacourts.us\/news-and-statistics\/cases-of-public-interest\/league-of-women-voters-et-al-v-the-commonwealth-of-pennsylvania-et-al-159-mm-2017\">court documents<\/a>). These boundaries will take effect in the primary vote next May, but not next month&#8217;s special election.<\/p>\n<p>The general consensus is that the map is more favourable to Democrats than the Democrats&#8217; own proposals: under this map, for example, <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/JMilesColeman\/status\/965713784349384704\">Clinton would have won the vote in eight seats to Trump&#8217;s ten<\/a>; under the old map, she won the vote in six to Trump&#8217;s twelve. Republicans are already planning an appeal.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/interactive\/2018\/02\/19\/upshot\/pennsylvania-new-house-districts-gerrymandering.html?smid=tw-share\"><em>The New York Times<\/em> does a map-heavy deep dive into the new district boundaries<\/a>: which areas they include and exclude, and their electoral implications.<\/p>\n<p>Suddenly rendered moot, but still worth pointing to: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.philly.com\/philly\/news\/compare-pa-congressional-map-proposals-fix-gerrymander.html\">Philly.com&#8217;s\u00a0\u00a0interactive comparison of congressional map proposals<\/a>.
