These include (among others) OpenStreetMap, which<a href=\"https:\/\/blog.openstreetmap.org\/2018\/06\/20\/switch2osm\/\"> posted a switching guide<\/a> in June; Apple, which <a href=\"https:\/\/www.maproomblog.com\/2018\/06\/mapkit-js-apple-maps-gets-an-api-for-websites\/\">announced its API for websites<\/a> that same month; and Here Maps, which (<em>a<\/em>) is still around<span id='easy-footnote-1-1786087' class='easy-footnote-margin-adjust'><\/span><span class='easy-footnote'><a href='https:\/\/www.maproomblog.com\/2018\/08\/google-maps-changes-api-pricing-competitors-respond\/#easy-footnote-bottom-1-1786087' title='Here, now owned by a group of German automakers, used to be part of Nokia; go back far enough, and it was Navteq.'><sup>1<\/sup><\/a><\/span> and (<em>b<\/em>) has announced <a href=\"https:\/\/360.here.com\/announcing-freemium-off-the-chart-location-technology-for-free\">a freemium plan<\/a> with reasonably generous transaction limits. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.engadget.com\/2018\/08\/06\/here-attacks-google-maps-with-new-freemium-website-plan\/\">As <em>Engadget<\/em> points out<\/a>, Google&#8217;s trying to profit off its market dominance; its competitors, seeing an opening, are making their move.
