Something different is happening with the <a href=\"http:\/\/shadedrelief.com\/ee_proj\/\">Equal Earth projection<\/a>, which was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.maproomblog.com\/2018\/08\/the-equal-earth-projection\/\">announced last month<\/a> as a response to Gall-Peters: an equal-area projection with &#8220;eye appeal.&#8221; It&#8217;s getting media traction: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsweek.com\/equal-earth-map-continents-accurate-2d-1102404\">the latest news outlet to take notice is <em>Newsweek<\/em><\/a>. So, finally, there&#8217;s an alternative that can be competitive on the PR front, without having to mumble something about all projections being compromises until the eyes glaze over.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s turning up in GIS packages, too: in <a href=\"https:\/\/codepen.io\/jwasilgeo\/pen\/QxGewN\">D3<\/a>, in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.giss.nasa.gov\/tools\/gprojector\/\">G.Projector<\/a> and in <a href=\"https:\/\/proj4.org\/operations\/projections\/eqearth.html\">proj4<\/a>.
