The result of a collaboration between the Royal Canadian Geographic Society, the Assembly of First Nations, Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami, the M\u00e9tis Nation, the National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation and Indspire, the atlas project includes a four-volume <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/o\/ASIN\/0986751626\/maproom-20\">physical atlas<\/a>, an <a href=\"https:\/\/indigenouspeoplesatlasofcanada.ca\/\">online version<\/a>, and additional teaching resources, including new giant floor maps from <em>Canadian Geographic<\/em>.<span id='easy-footnote-1-1786289' class='easy-footnote-margin-adjust'><\/span><span class='easy-footnote'><a href='https:\/\/www.maproomblog.com\/2018\/09\/the-indigenous-peoples-atlas-of-canada\/#easy-footnote-bottom-1-1786289' title='See previous entries: &lt;a href=&quot;https:\/\/www.maproomblog.com\/2018\/01\/route-338-a-giant-educational-map-about-canadas-political-system\/&quot;&gt;Route 338: A Giant Educational Map About Canada\u2019s Political System&lt;\/a&gt;; &lt;a href=&quot;https:\/\/www.maproomblog.com\/2017\/11\/a-giant-map-of-the-battle-of-vimy-ridge\/&quot;&gt;A Giant Map of the Battle of Vimy Ridge&lt;\/a&gt;.'><sup>1<\/sup><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The physical atlas&#8217;s four volumes include one for First Nations, one for the Inuit, one for the M\u00e9tis, and one focusing on Truth and Reconciliation. It has a list price of C$99.99 (online sellers will have it for less) and comes out in one week, on September 25th: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/o\/ASIN\/0986751626\/maproom-20\">Amazon<\/a>. A French-language version comes out next month, on October 23rd: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/o\/ASIN\/0986751677\/maproom-20\">Amazon<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/indigenouspeoplesatlasofcanada.ca\">The online version of the atlas<\/a> has the text but very little in the way of maps: I can only assume that this is not the case for the book versions. The companion app, for <a href=\"https:\/\/itunes.apple.com\/ca\/app\/ipac\/id1352523505?mt=8&amp;at=1010laWd\">iOS<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/play.google.com\/store\/apps\/details?id=ca.canadiangeographic.ipac\">Android<\/a>, does little more than link to the web version and includes a location finder for land acknowledgment.<\/p>\n<p>The news buzz about this atlas in this country is considerable: see recent coverage from <a href=\"https:\/\/theprovince.com\/news\/canada\/indigenous-peoples-atlas-of-canada-launches-expected-to-be-important-learning-tool\/wcm\/cabdc017-9934-4dfc-8a4b-36c9bcc72565\">the Canadian Press<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/news\/canada\/north\/indigenous-peoples-atlas-canada-canadian-geographic-1.4806725\">CBC News<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theglobeandmail.com\/canada\/article-indigenous-peoples-atlas-of-canada-launches-after-two-years-of-input\/\">the <em>Globe and Mail<\/em><\/a>. This looks to be a cultural watershed event the likes of which I have not seen since the publication of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thecanadianencyclopedia.ca\/en\"><em>The Canadian Encyclopedia<\/em><\/a> in 1985.
