Wikimedia Commons<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Much study has been devoted to the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Gough_Map\">Gough Map<\/a>, a late medieval map of Great Britain, exact date and authorship unknown, that was donated to the Bodleian Library in 1809 by the map\u2019s now-namesake, Richard Gough. (An <a href=\"http:\/\/www.goughmap.org\/map\/\">interactive version<\/a> is available online.) <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.history.ac.uk\/2019\/08\/understanding-the-gough-map-the-application-of-physics-chemistry-and-history\/\">A new project<\/a> led by Catherine Delano-Smith and Nick Millea explores the map on several levels: as <em>physical object<\/em>, combining hyperspectral imagery, pigment analysis and 3D scanning; the process of how the map was drawn (and redrawn); and a close analysis of the places and names found on the map.
