Edited by Matthew H. Edney and Mary Spondberg Pedley and featuring the work of more than 200 contributors, this book \u201coffers a comprehensive overview of the cartographic practices of Europeans, Russians, and the Ottomans, both at home and in overseas territories, from 1650 to 1800.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I say \u201cnominally\u201d because, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mappingasprocess.net\/blog\/2020\/4\/9\/celebrate\">Edney reports<\/a>, \u201cthe entire print run of the book is being held at the printers in Manitoba until the pandemic recedes and there is someone at the press warehouse to receive the shipment and get the hard copies into everyone\u2019s hands. So, please be patient.\u201d The ebook version is in preparation.<\/p>\n<p>The History of Cartography Project is being published a bit out of sequence. <a href=\"https:\/\/geography.wisc.edu\/histcart\/volume-6-cartography-in-the-twentieth-century\/\">Volume six<\/a>, covering the twentieth century, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.maproomblog.com\/2015\/07\/history-of-cartography-project\/\">came out in 2015<\/a>. Still to come is <a href=\"https:\/\/geography.wisc.edu\/histcart\/volume-5-cartography-in-the-nineteenth-century\/\">volume five<\/a>, which covers the nineteenth century. Volume five editor Roger Kain <a href=\"https:\/\/talkinghumanities.blogs.sas.ac.uk\/2020\/04\/09\/how-we-make-maps-and-why-the-university-of-chicago-press-history-of-cartography-1987-2024\/\">has some thoughts on the history of the History of Cartography project<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>While quite expensive to purchase, each volume is made <a href=\"https:\/\/www.press.uchicago.edu\/books\/HOC\/index.html\">available for free download<\/a> on the History of Cartography project website 24 months after publication.
