The workshop will take place on 19 June both <a href=\"https:\/\/queenslandwriters.org.au\/events\/mapmaking\">in-person<\/a> (at the Queensland Writers Centre in Brisbane) and <a href=\"https:\/\/queenslandwriters.org.au\/events\/live-stream-map-making-amp-world-building-with-kathleen-jennings\">via livestream<\/a>; tickets range from A$35 to A$100, depending.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ies.sas.ac.uk\/study-training\/study-weeks\/london-rare-books-school\/history-maps-and-mapping-0#overlay-context=study-training\/study-weeks\/london-rare-books-school\">A History of Maps and Mapping<\/a><\/strong>, a short introductory online course taught by Katherine Parker as part of the London Rare Books School\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ies.sas.ac.uk\/study-training\/study-weeks\/london-rare-books-school\/lrbs-2021-courses#overlay-context=study-training\/study-weeks\/london-international-palaeography-summer-school\/how-manuscripts-were-made\">program of summer courses<\/a>, \u201cwill challenge students to destabilize and broaden the traditional definition of \u2018map\u2019, and to recognize maps as socially constructed objects that are indicative of the values and biases of their makers and the cultures that created them. Students will learn how to analyse and catalogue maps for a variety of research purposes, and to discuss changes in map technology and style without recourse to a progressive narrative of scientific improvement.\u201d Matthew Edney will supply a guest lecture.
