The Verge<\/em> maps the gaps in U.S. broadband coverage<\/a>. \u201cThis map shows where the broadband problem is worst\u2014the areas where the difficulty of reliably connecting to the internet has gotten bad enough to become a drag on everyday life. Specifically, the colored-in areas show US counties where less than 15 percent of households are using the internet at broadband speed, defined as 25Mbps download speed. (That\u2019s already a pretty low threshold for calling something \u2018high-speed internet,\u2019 but since it\u2019s the Federal Communications Commission\u2019s standard, we\u2019ll stick with it.)\u201d They\u2019re using anonymized Microsoft cloud data rather than the FCC<\/abbr>\u2019s numbers (which don\u2019t have a good track record reflecting real-world speeds<\/a>).<\/p>\n
