For the past year and a half Max has been posting new maps three times a week to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/the.map.art\/\">his Instagram account<\/a>: the maps are of countries, but also continents, provinces, states, districts and cities; some of them are of countries\u2019 historical boundaries (e.g. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/CIs-0yMK59E\/\">interwar<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/CIYXl4eqIwz\/\">Romania<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/CMsHUstnTZ-\/\">Habsburg Hungary<\/a>\u2014or, going even further back, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/CTAEVmFM_a0\/\">Pangaea<\/a>) some of them (e.g. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/CVQSvt5lXZQ\/\">this pinwheel map of Myanmar<\/a>) are even animated. There\u2019s a lot of whimsy and pop-culture references that don\u2019t always match up with the borders they\u2019re filling out; these aren\u2019t the \u201cserio-comic\u201d satirical maps of the pre-World War I era.
