Leventhal Map Center, Boston Public Library.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Opening today at the Boston Public Library\u2019s Leventhal Map Center, <strong><em>Building Blocks: Boston Stories from Urban Atlases<\/em><\/strong> is an exhibition that explores street-level changes to Boston in the period between the Civil War and World War II. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.leventhalmap.org\/about\/press-releases\/new-exhibition-building-blocks-boston-stories-from-urban-atlases-opens-at-leventhal-map-education-center-january-13-2023-1\/\">Media release<\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote cite=\"https:\/\/www.leventhalmap.org\/about\/press-releases\/new-exhibition-building-blocks-boston-stories-from-urban-atlases-opens-at-leventhal-map-education-center-january-13-2023-1\/\"><p><em>Building Blocks: Boston Stories from Urban Atlases<\/em> features rare materials from the BPL\u2019s historic collection of maps and atlases alongside lithographs, photographs, and sketches of familiar local landscapes. Visitors will discover how the atlas collections opens up a world of fascinating stories, with vignettes including the city\u2019s first African Meeting House in the heart of Beacon Hill, landmarks of leisure like the \u201cDerby Racer\u201d and \u201cGiant Safety Thriller\u201d amusement rides in Revere, public health infrastructure on Gallops Island in Boston Harbor, and many more.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The in-person exhibition at the BPL\u2019s Central Library opens today; a digital version will follow online. Runs until 19 August 2023.
