The annual University of Chicago Press book sale<\/a> is frequently hazardous to one\u2019s bank account. This year\u2019s is especially dangerous for map lovers: I count more than 20 cartographic titles with discounts varying between 29 and 76 percent (the PDF catalog<\/a> shows the discount more clearly), including several I\u2019ve previously reviewed (Picturing America<\/em><\/a>, The Red Atlas<\/em><\/a>, A History of America in 100 Maps<\/em><\/a>, The Writer\u2019s Map<\/em><\/a>, Phantom Islands<\/em><\/a>, Elsewhere<\/a><\/em>). The fact that I already have<\/em> most of these books\u2014admittedly most as review copies\u2014keeps me relatively safe (which is good: I\u2019m still recovering from last<\/em> year\u2019s sale).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
