{"id":1842966,"date":"2025-06-23T16:27:27","date_gmt":"2025-06-23T20:27:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.maproomblog.com\/?p=1842966"},"modified":"2025-06-23T19:34:20","modified_gmt":"2025-06-23T23:34:20","slug":"ferjan-ormeling-jr-1942-2025","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.maproomblog.com\/2025\/06\/ferjan-ormeling-jr-1942-2025\/","title":{"rendered":"Ferjan Ormeling Jr., 1942-2025"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/icaci.org\/obituary-ferjan-ormeling-1942-2025\/\">The International Cartographic Association announced the passing of Ferdinand Jan (\u201cFerjan\u201d) Ormeling Jr.<\/a>, \u201ca pioneering figure in thematic and atlas cartography and a backbone of the development of the International Cartographic Association.\u201d He was 82.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>A champion of cartographic education, Ormeling co-authored with Menno-Jan Kraak the well-regarded textbook&nbsp;<em>Cartography: Visualization of Spatial Data<\/em>, now in its fourth edition, which remains a foundational reference for generations of mapmakers. Both during and after his career, he curated an impressive collection of atlases and historical maps.
