NOAA and NASA had been told that they\u2019d lose access to the data today: see <a href=\"https:\/\/www.maproomblog.com\/2025\/06\/defense-department-cuts-off-noaa-nasa-from-key-satellite-data-used-in-hurricane-forecasting\/\">previous entry<\/a>. <a href=\"https:\/\/michaelrlowry.substack.com\/p\/navy-set-to-unplug-critical-hurricane\">In an earlier post Lowry challenged the notion<\/a> that a viable substitute could be found for the DMSP\u2019s Special Sensor Microwave Imager Sounder (SSMIS) data, the loss of which he described as \u201csignificant and devastating\u201d to hurricane forecasting.
