Meanwhile, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/us-news\/climate-environment\/cities-fight-to-get-off-femas-flood-maps-one-montana-town-shows-the-risk-47c126b9\">the <em>Wall Street Journal<\/em><\/a> [<a href=\"https:\/\/apple.news\/AZ8Zo9I5QSG-hwDXb4kgqjg\">Apple News+ alt link<\/a>] looks at how properties in a Montana town that were removed from the flood zone in proposed FEMA maps were later inundated by floods (properties in flood zones require flood insurance, and face additional restrictions, so there are incentives to appeal that designation; on the other hand, if you win your appeal and your property floods anyway <em>and<\/em> you don\u2019t have flood insurance, well).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Two recent articles on the contentiousness that breaks out at the local level when FEMA updates its flood maps.
