I&#8217;m struck by the lengths he took to &#8220;avoid making the map look too European&#8221; and by the careful consideration of what\u00a0a map from that world\u00a0should\u00a0look like, which is almost unheard of\u00a0in the fantasy map business, where maps invariably conform to a very specific style.\u00a0The end result is a map that evokes portolan charts, replete with\u00a0windrose lines and looking like it was drawn on vellum. As fantasy maps go, it&#8217;s one of the finer executions I&#8217;ve seen.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"buy-amazon\">Amazon: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/o\/ASIN\/0765387689\/maproom-20\">paperback<\/a> (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.ca\/o\/ASIN\/0765387689\/maproomca-20\">Canada<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.co.uk\/o\/ASIN\/0765387689\/thmaro-21\">U.K.<\/a>),\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/o\/ASIN\/B014PAOIKS\/maproom-20\">Kindle<\/a> (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.ca\/o\/ASIN\/B014PAOIKS\/maproomca-20\">Canada<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.co.uk\/o\/ASIN\/B014PAOIKS\/thmaro-21\">U.K.<\/a>)<\/span> | <a class=\"buy-itunes\" href=\"https:\/\/geo.itunes.apple.com\/ca\/book\/the-drowning-eyes\/id1035242735?mt=11&amp;at=1010laWd\">iBooks<\/a><\/p>\n<p>For the audiobook version (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/o\/ASIN\/B0161QPLRI\/maproom-20\">Amazon<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/geo.itunes.apple.com\/ca\/audiobook\/the-drowning-eyes-unabridged\/id1067401918?at=1010laWd&amp;mt=3\">iTunes<\/a>), the publisher has taken the map and <a href=\"http:\/\/page.macmillan.com\/audio\/drowning-eyes-audio\">made it interactive<\/a>: clicking on a location\u00a0gives you an excerpt from the book.
