\"phantom-atlas\"<\/a>Edward Brooke-Hitching<\/a>\u2019s new book,\u00a0The Phantom Atlas: The Greatest Myths, Lies and Blunders on Maps<\/em><\/strong> (Simon & Schuster UK<\/a>, November) is a book about fictitious and erroneous places that were presented on maps as real\u2014\u201cnon-existent islands, invented mountain ranges, mythical civilisations and other fictitious geography.\u201d Places like\u00a0the Mountains of Kong<\/a>, or the open ocean at the North Pole, or California as an island. Both the\u00a0Economist<\/em>\u2019s <\/a>1843 Magazine<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>and the\u00a0Guardian<\/em><\/a> have excerpts and examples from the book.<\/p>\n
